Day 1 – Arrival at Srinagar. Transfer & stay at Guest House.
Assemble at Srinagar airport by 1400 hrs. Travel to Sonmarg by non AC tempo traveller (about 100 km by road – 3 and a half to 4 hours). Check in to the guest house. Evening we will have a small intro session and de briefing about the trek. Overnight at guest house.(Meals – dinner)
Day 2 – Sonmarg to Nichnai
Today we will have an early start. Enjoy a nice hot water bath in the morning & post breakfast, we will leave for our start point by 0700hrs. We start our trek by 0800hrs. The first day’s trek starts with an ascent for about an hour and heads towards an open plateau from where one can get some wonderful views of Sonmarg. As we continue ahead, there will be gradual inclines en route, and we will walk past a beautiful forest patch which is full of Deodar and Silver birch trees. One can get to see some rare avian beauties as well. We will stop for lunch near a stream where we can refill our water and just soak in the beauty around us. Post lunch we proceed further. We expect to reach our campsite by 1500 hrs. Evening will be at leisure with some group activities. Overnight in tents at campsite.
Day 3 – Nichnai – Vishnu Sar (aka Vishansar) Lake
After a nice sumptuous breakfast, we set out to conquer our first pass on the trek- Nichnai pass (13,500 ft). The walk will be very scenic but will have its share of inclines that could tire you out, but not to worry, as, once at the top of the pass, the stunning landscapes make you forget absolutely everything. After enjoying the views for about 15-20mins we will start our descend from the pass and be amongst the open meadows and colourful flora soon after. We will halt for lunch near a stream. Lunch break en route ensures rest and chance to get some wonderful pictures. We proceed further to our campsite which is very close to the first lake of this trek – Vishnu Sar Lake (Lake of Lord Vishnu). Our campsite is located at the base of this lake. A small hike leads up to this lake, and once on top, you are left awestruck with the views. Crystal clean water, tall strong mountains surrounding the lake will make you feel as if you are in heaven!!! Evening we will spend some time taking pictures of Vishnu Sar lake, or just sit back, relax and bask in the beauty of the place. Overnight in tents at campsite.
Day 4 – Rest Day at Vishnu Sar
A welcome rest day. Entire day will be spent at leisure. Overnight in tents at camp site.
Day 5 – Vishnu Sar – Gadsar Lake
Today post breakfast, we set out by 0800hrs to see the next Lake – Kishansar (or Krishnasar). A short walk of 20-25 mins from our campsite and the beautiful Kishansar lake awaits us. The views are once again absolutely fantastic. We will proceed further to Gadsar as we cross the second & probably the highest pass of our trek – Gadsar Pass (approx 13800ft). We will be going up a fairly steep ascent and will be blessed with some stunning views of both Kishansar and Vishnu Sar lakes. We will spend some time at Gadsar pass and then descend. Our walk will continue amongst the meadows till we reach an army camp. Little ahead of the army camp we will set our camp in between two mountain ranges.
Day 6 – Gadsar – Satsar
After breakfast, by 0800hrs, we head across the stream and up the mountain, above the treeline, surrounded by mountains. You start with a gentle descent for about an hour, which would make you think this is the easy part of the trek until you encounter the steep ascent for about three hours. A flat meadow walk is your just reward after this challenging section. Finally we reach Satsar, which literally means seven lakes. The Satsar Lake is a series of seven small lakes connected with each other in a cascade formation. The season you trek will determine how many of the lakes have water in them. We pass the Army Camp before camping by the lake. Overnight in tents at campsite.
Day 7 – Satsar to Gangabal
Today’s route is more of a boulder walk for the initial hour. A zigzag route later on leads us to an open meadow again. A small steep ascent from here takes us up to a ridge which is approx at 13,500ft and from here one can get to see some stunning views of the twin lakes (Nandkol & Gangabal). From here there is a steep descent for about an hour and a half, and another small ascent will lead us to our campsite right alongside Nandkol Lake. This lake is situated at the base of Harmukh peak and one can see the Harmukh glacier overhanging. Overnight in tents at campsite.
Day 8 – Gangabal – Naranag and Naranag – Srinagar (approx 2.5hrs drive, 50kms)
The final day of the trek. We bid adieu to this Heaven, with some everlasting memories as we head back to the hustle & bustle of city life. Our walk will start with a slight incline, as we walk for the last time amongst the meadows. An hour into the walk and one can see the landscape changing as we approach the tree line once again. Steep descents and gradual inclines take us down to Naranag and we can finally stop walking! We will enjoy some hot snacks, check our luggage and then proceed to Srinagar. It’s about 50kms back to Srinagar where you can finally slip off your trekking boots and relax on one of the city’s famous houseboats and sip on some hot and refreshing Kawa! Evening we’ll enjoy a nice Shikara ride in the famous Dal Lake and also relish some local cuisine.
Day 9 – Departure
You will be dropped at Srinagar airport for your flight back home. Services end here.
NOTE : In case we get good weather on the trek, the rest day on day 4 will be adjusted on Day 8
